I.S.S.M.A. Solo and Ensemble
What is Solo and Ensemble?
Students have the opportunity to perform at ISSMA Instrumental Solo and Ensemble contest held at Northwood High School in Nappanee. Students may perform as soloists OR in groups of 3 or more students. Students will be responsible for learning the music independently and working with their director to further prepare their piece for the contest. Solo entries cost $18 and ensemble entries are $10 per student per ensemble. John Glenn will pay for 1 event for your student as well as provide an accompanist for soloists. If your student wishes to do more than 1 event, you will be responsible for the remaining balance. High school students who perform in group 1 and earn a gold rating at district level have the option to perform at the state level on at North Central High School in Indianapolis.
Some general reminders:
Your student should have their original, numbered score of their solo and ensemble in hand when they enter their room. It is the responsibility of the Soloist or Ensemble leader to ensure that their Original Judges copy of their music is numbered correctly.
It is a smart practice to arrive 90 minutes prior to your performance time. Parking can be a little crazy, so this will ensure that you can park and get situated without feeling rushed. You should go and find your performance room first, then head to warm-up.
Please dress nicely, as this is a classical music contest and considered formal. Either concert black, or white over black are really good options! Keep it classy, and it must be school appropriate.
Remember that you are representing our school and band program. Your conduct and language should always remain positive and professional.
There is no transportation to this contest, please plan accordingly and come out to support your student doing great things!
